She was sent to private school as soon as she was old enough and fairly closely monitored by her parents. She had a few parentally-approved friends, but stayed largely isolated until her parents caved to the demands of the modern age and bought a computer when she was about 10. While her parents largely tried to ignore it, Lia took to it very quickly, becoming fascinated with the inner workings of both the computer and the internet. With a little practice and some careful questions asked, she became good enough to take the computer apart and rebuild it, and slowly became a lurker, then a poster, then chatter, then gamer, then hacker. Since she was quiet and out of the way, her parents either payed very little attention or didn't care about her online activities. She continued to keep most of her life online until she convinced her parents to let her attend college away from home, where she attempted to make herself a little more social, with mixed results.
